Sample Sunday: 12.6.2015

So here it is hunties.  Some samples I tried on Sunday.  Mostly misses so find out where to save your money.  A couple of hits though.  So lets go.

1.  Lierac Paris Liftissime Serum $95 at Amazon.com

What is it?  According to Amazon.com...

Product Description

This treatment has the highest concentration of cell-junction complex (6.6 percent) and hyaluronic acid (8 percent) in the range. It is enriched with a collagen and elastin boosting active, the biotechnological restructuring agent, for complete restructuring of the face and a reinforced 3d lifting effect.

Brand Story

For more than 40 years, LIERAC Paris has been a leading anti-aging skin care line in European pharmacies. Their award-winning formulas are the result of unique dermatological savoir-faire and research in dedicated French labs.

What does Ms. Faux think?

It smelled great, worked pretty well for a moisturizer.  Aveeno's Positively Radiant line works just as well.  So yeah it is a great product.  Oh... Aveeno's Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer retails for $14.99.  THIS IS $95 DAMN DOLLARS.  Nope.  Next.

What is it?  According to LovelySkin.com...

LIERAC Liftissime Nuit Re-Densifying Sculpting Cream improves the appearance of established wrinkles, sagging face contour, hollowed cheeks and thinner facial contours. This effective lifting treatment creates well-defined contours and balanced volumes for all skin types. It results in denser facial contours and smoothed features. The cream's gentle top notes of wild berries, freesia and jasmine flowers pair nicely with its base notes of velvety smooth sandalwood.

Again I'm sure there is some science behind this that justifies the price???  Yes that was a statement question.  More of a question.  Trust me.  Use another night moisturizer.  You would be better to spend this kind of money (if you are really wanting to dole out your dollars) on Clarins Extra Firming Night Cream ($91 at Sephora).  It is a quality product.  Still there are cheaper drug store versions out there as well like most Olay creams especially their new Regenerist Luminous Line.

What is it?  According to Sephora.com...

What it is:
A color-correcting primer that preps the face for makeup application and wear.

What it does:
This lightweight, oil-free primer helps create a smooth, even canvas for foundation. It color corrects for a range of complexion concerns, especially redness, so makeup glides on evenly and stays true for a neutral, even start.

What else you need to know:
Which one to use depends on your skin. There’s a Superprimer for redness, dullness, discoloration, and sallowness. If you have more than one skin concern, we recommend using a Superprimer to address one issue and a foundation to address the other.

If you simply want allover smoothing before foundation, try our Universal Superprimer, which preps skin beautifully for makeup. It is translucent, so wearing it alone is an option if you’re pressed for time, but for best results, team Superprimer with foundation for a flawless look.

What does Ms. Faux think?

I almost don't want to waste my time writing a review, but here we go.  It faired o.k. as a primer and was terrible as a color corrector.  Now I don't have a ton of redness in my skin, but what I do have is an area where I was hit in the cheek by a softball.  It burst some capillaries and the area remains discolored to this day.  That color?  Most people with redness in their skin.  This did nothing.  Trust.  It got mediocre reviews on Sephora as well.

What is it?  According to Sephora.com...

What it is:
A professional balm that minimizes the appearance of pores.

What it does:
Quickly minimize the appearance of pores and fine lines and help makeup stay put with this priming phenomenon. The silky and lightweight formula can be worn under makeup to create a smoother-than-smooth canvas or used throughout the day to mattify shine and touch up problem areas. It’s so translucent, no one will know you’re wearing anything!

What else you need to know:
The oil-free formula contains vitamin E, which is known to protect skin from free radicals.

Ding, Ding, Ding!!!  Now if you want a primer... look no further.  They are like Toyota of primers.  Benefit figured it out before anyone and it has a slight tint so there is no discoloration on the skin.  Pores recede and your face takes on a beautiful matte look without drying.  It is heaven in a tube.  I dare say... one of my favorite primers.

What is it?  According to SallyBeauty.com...

  • Free of parabens, sulfates, phthalates, glutens, drying alcohol and artificial colors
  • Adds incredible shine
  • Builds strength
  • Conditions

Hask Naturals Strengthening Hair Masque is specifically formulated for normal to dry hair. The hair masque is infused with exotic oils, extracts and essential nutrients designed to strengthen the hair cuticle and give you the ultimate smooth and frizz free look. The result is natural, healthy looking hair with a rich, luxurious shine. Hask Naturals Strengthening Hair Masque is perfect for fine, thin hair.

What does Ms. Faux think?

As I have mentioned recently my hair has hit a dry patch for whatever reason.  Probably because it is longer than usual.  This stuff however did the trick.  My hair was sooooooo soft after using it.  I paired it with my favorite Bumble & Bumble Sunday Shampoo, which like it says, I use on Sundays to remove any residue.

The only issue with this shampoo is that it can be drying.  There is a reason it is called sunday.  You should really only use it once a week.  It however strips all the crap out and leaves you with ultra clean hair.  This Hask's Natural mask however put all that moisture and then some back, without leaving Ms. Faux's tresses lookin' all crazy and oil.  That is a real fear with conditioners and really fine hair.

So there you go hunties.  Sample Sunday is a wrap.  While definitely a few no gos, there was definitely a few gems in my bunch.

Have any samples you think I should try?
