The Force Can Suck It: Cover Girl Limited Edition Star Wars Launch

The first thing that comes up when you click on Cover Girl's Star Wars launch of cosmetics is...

"Which Side Are You On?"

I'll tell you which side.  The one that doesn't make me look like a damn idiot.  I seriously do not get this pairing, but I did try some stuff and will give you my honest opinion regardless of the coupling of things that don't need to be coupled.  Get it together Cover Girl.  Just launch your fantastic Mascara and leave the movie making to George Lucas.

You've frozen George in carbonite Cover Girl... STOP IT!!!
Anyway... here we go.  Sorry.. this really bugs me.

First lets start with the packaging.  This is going to be universal for the entire line so I'm just going to put it here.  When I look at my cosmetics, I don't need to see the Star Wars Logo on it.  Actually I would prefer not to.  If you are a fan I'm sure you will appreciate, but otherwise meh.  Unnecessary.

Alright... moving on.  While I can appreciate a concept line, I found only two of these colors to be wearable, maybe three if you have the coloring to rock a dark lip.  Still of the three, let's say, "wearable colors," I would always reach for another product in the same hue as the forumulation on this is kind of hard and drier.  Not my fave.

This launched in September and all I can think of is possibly for Halloween.  In that case, BRILLIANT!  You've made a costume easier to build, otherwise not much use for the line.  And it goes downhill from here.

Again... pointless.  While I think in terms of nail color these are a lot more wearable, the whole packaging concept is pointless.  That being said, much better formulation in that I love Outlast Nail Polishes from Cover Girl.  These colors didn't float my board, but perhaps yours.  So maybe I am taking a turn for the better.  Nope!

3.  Star Wars Limited Edition Super Sizer Mascara $6.95 at Covergirl.com

O.k.... I'm just done.  This one is packaging alone which is precisely why this is infuriating me.  I mean...

It is a fantastic mascara.  I liked it the first time around.  I don't need star wars on it.  They have Dark Side (regular mascara) or Light Side (waterproof).  Marketing genius!!!

Child that is so dumb it deserves a NeNe eye roll.
O.k. not one to gripe and not offer a solution and again perhaps I would be o.k. with this launch if they continued their, "concept," lines.  Might I suggest some of the following would be gorgeous palettes that would be more wearable.

As a matter of fact I think I just found a new blog idea over the next few weeks.

Let me know what you think of this idea.

A new spot each week will be make up inspired by different classic movies.  The products that you can buy to create the look.

Would that be something of interest?  Also like in Legends of the Fall if there are two looks like Julia Ormond and Karina Lomgbard I will do both?

Let me know if this is a great idea or if it is something that has been done to death or how to make it better.  I would love to know.

For now though I will say the force is not with Cover Girl Cosmetics.  This Star Wars line is an absolute bust, even as a concept line.  More wearability please.  Because otherwise...

Ms. Faux's Favorite Medicine Cabinet Cold Remedies

So Ms. Faux woke this morning to that all too familiar scratchy throat symptom that generally leads to a full blown cold so I thought... time to post something on those favorites that cuts the time of Ms. Faux's pesky colds.

What is it?  According to the Young Living Website...

Thieves® Essential Oil is one of the most potent combinations of natural, pure ingredients. This proprietary mix of essential oils is based on the medieval story of four thieves who used a special blend of herbs and other natural components before they would dare to rob infected plague victims. Not only can Thieves be used to refresh the mind, body and to support the immune system, it is also safe and university-tested1 for its powerful cleansing abilities. Additionally it has a therapeutic scent which can be added to laundry, dishes, cleaners, or simply used as an aromatic fragrance. Try Young Living’s Thieves® Essential Oil and experience the botanical aromatherapy for yourself.
 Product Tips:
 Thieves® Essential Oil Ingredients:
Clove† (Syzygium aromaticum), lemon† (Citrus limon), cinnamon† (Cinnamomum verum), Eucalyptus radiata† and rosemary† (Rosmarinus officinalis CT 1,8 cineol).
What does Ms. Faux think?

First of all the delicious cinnamon, eucalyptus, lemon, rosemary and clove scent is to die for.  Makes you feel all warm.  Second the oils involved are all very therapeutic in their own ways.  Eucalyptus helps you breathe and opens up airways, clove has properties that help to calm irritation and expectoration in the throat.  It is commonly used in the treatment of asthma.  Rosemary increases circulation and helps to soothe coughs and headaches.  Cinnamon helps to reduce inflamation, fights bacteria and has anti-oxidant effects.  Then there's lemon.  Other than the vitamin C element Lemon has been long used to fight colds and flu.  It has a detoxification property and also helps to reduce swelling.  I also recommend Young Living's Eucalyptus Globulus Oil $19 at Young Living.  I diffuse this to aid with breathing or put a couple of drops in my bath.

Next...  Lemons themselves...

Again for the reasons I've already mentioned, lemons have a detoxification property that reduces swelling.  They are full of vitamin C and they have long been used to treat the flu and cold.  Also... they are great in a Hot Toddy.  Which brings me to my next must have for cold and flu season.

The Hot Toddy

For this reason I always keep whiskey around the house.  Some like to make it with other liquors, but for Ms. Faux...  whiskey was good enough for my grandmother so it is good enough for me.   That's right... my grandma would give them to me as a kid.  Judge her all you want.  It basically is a purer form of Nyquil which I will put in my body over nyquil any day of the week.

Now it is my believe that people like to over-complicate a hot toddy.  To be honest the clove and cinnamon stick in the picture above is a bit overkill for me, but... both of those items do have medicinal qualities so I will allow it.  However all you really need is to follow this recipe.  Keep it simple.

The only thing I disagree with in this recipe is their allowing simple syrup.  ALWAYS use honey.  Also for whiskey... I've always selected Knob Creek.  Again a personal preference.  Some like the honey whiskeys to do it with, but to be honest I like to allow honey to speak for itself rather than a booze distributor inserting it as flavor.

Hot toddy's help to relax the system, have anti-oxidant properties in them, soothe the throat and I have always found them to help sweat out a fever.

Next... if there is a chance I can fight this cold I will reach for...

It is full of vitamins and minerals to help your body in fighting a cold.  Take in advance to help prevent colds.

Immune System Support* with Vitamin D
  • 1,000 IU Vitamin D
  • 1,000mg Vitamin C
  • Zinc & Beta Glucans
  • B Vitamins & Electrolytes
Vitamin D
Recent research suggests vitamin D plays an important role in regulating immune system function.*
Antioxidants
Vitamin C, zinc, and manganese are essential nutrients for maintaining a healthy antioxidant response.*
Proprietary Immune Complex
Beta Glucans, Arabinogalactan, and other nutrients support your body's immune function.*

Just what your body needs.  However if the throat is gone and you are begging for relief, a favorite tea is from Traditional Medicinals.

What is it?  According to their website...

Winner of 2014 Cleanest Packaged Foods Award, PREVENTION magazine
Personality
Smooth and silky.
Herbal Power
Helps you sing it loud, say it proud, stand up and be heard.
Reason to Love
Slippery elm or Ulmus rubra (Latin for “red elm,” so called for its lovely reddish bark) is a beautiful, native North American elm tree. It’s the inner bark of this tree that is actually called “slippery elm” due to its, yes, slippery, smooth, and slimy-in-a-good-way properties. Combined with licorice and marshmallow root, we think this tea blend is like taking your voice to the spa—because we all need a little comfort sometimes so we can get back to being our best.
Taste
Sweet and earthy, silky, with a distinct licorice taste.
This the the most soothing thing for your throat.  I cannot be without it when I get a cold because Ms. Faux's throat is generally what takes the brunt of an infection.  Throat Coat can be found at most major department and grocery stores.

What is it?  According to kneippus.com...

This highly concentrated bath treatment with aroma-intensive, essential eucalyptus oil from an evergreen tree, stimulates and helps relieve sinuses especially during cold and flu season. Use Eucalyptus when you feel feel a cold or flu coming. The signs could be chills, stuffy nose, head congestion, general tiredness. It is also helpful during allergy season and can be cooling in summer.
Usage:
Use one capful of Kneipp Herbal Bath Oil for each bath. For best results, bathing time should never exceed 15 to 20 minutes. Most Kneipp bath therapy starts with water that is body temperature or slightly warmer (98.6-104F). Sleep inducing, relaxing baths should be a little cooler, (97-98F) and it is advisable to take a warmer bath (102-104F) with the onset of a cold or when suffering from rheumatism. Never bathe if you have a fever, and baths that are too hot put a strain on the circulatory system. A foot bath or partial bath is recommended when suffering from cardiac conditions or cold and flu. After a bath, replenish skin by massaging the body with Kneipp Body Lotion or Body Oil. This helps the skin to regain its natural pH balance and form a protective layer.
Tip:
When you feel the first signs of a cold coming on, take a foot bath with increasing temperature. Dip both feet into a bowl filled with warm water of about 95˚ F. Add a few drops of Kneipp Eucalyptus Herbal Bath and continue to add hot water to increase the temperature. After 15 minutes, water temperature should be 104˚ F. Soak 5 more minutes in water before toweling off your legs. Relax in your bed for 20 minutes for maximum benefit of your therapeutic foot soak. (this method should not be used by persons w/ vascular conditions)

What does Ms. Faux think?

When I am full blown sick there is nothing in the world that I want more than this stuff and a warm bed after.  It literally makes it to where you get so much relief that you don't want to leave the bath.  It is heaven in a bottle.  Makes it well worth the pricier price tag.

After that just some bits to help make it through...

These things are soooooo soothing on your nose, especially when it is super duper chapped.  And speaking of chapped noses, I cannot live without...

This stuff is the bomb.  It is an ointment for super chapped noses and helps to soothe with a slight menthol cooling effect.  It is perfection inside of dry noses to give some relief.  It is just absolute perfection in a tube.  Don't believe me... this product has been going strong for over a century.

I love these.  First... I hate medicine tasting cough drops.  These are the best and help you stop coughing without the terrible after taste.  Plus they have an extra soothing middle.

Why in the tube?  Well I do prefer boroleum for my nose, but when out and about I like the portability of the Carmex tube.  I mean it is the same product as the jar, but just easier to carrier.  Want to know something super duper gross?  Before Baroleum and before they put Carmex into tubes Ms. Faux used to have 2 jars.  One had an, "N" on it because that was the disgusting one she used on her nose.  Yummy!  Also Ms. Faux used to work for pediatricians and they always recommended Carmex to patients for cold sores.

Lastly... and this is important...

Get on a couch and watch yourself some trash TV.  Why?  Because you don't have to pay attention to it.  The same thing happens to everyone that does reality tv.  There is an innocent remark, that gets misconstrued and eventually back to the person that it was said about and there is a whole misunderstanding and then someone says...

YES!  Then there is a fight.  It is amazing.  Should you need some more high brow reality than the Housewives may I offer...

Some RuPaul's Drag Race REALNESS.  But lets be real, they all just Housewives in drag and I LOVE IT!

Seriously though hunties... take care of yourself and keep healthy.

Love,
Faux

L.A. Girl Cosmetics

So I didn't try everything that L.A. Girl Cosmetics has to offer but I did try a bunch.  Here is my favorites and misses of this brand.

What is it?  According to Walgreens.com...

Provides Complete, Natural-Looking Coverage
  • Crease-resistant
  • Opaque coverage in a creamy yet light weight texture
  • Provides complete, natural-looking coverage
  • Animal cruelty free
Crease-resistant, opaque coverage in a creamy yet lightweight texture.  The long-wearing formula camouflages darkness under the eyes, redness and skin imperfections.  Provides complete, natural-looking coverage, evens skin tone, covers dark circles and minimizes fine lines around the eyes.
What does Ms. Faux think?

When I see concealers with brushes attached I think under the eye rather than to conceal a blemish.  So that is how I tried this.  I think this is a bit too heavy for under the eye.  Maybe o.k. to conceal blemishes, but I don't know if I would want the brush on bacteria filled blemishes.  I will give this one a pass.

What is it?  According to Walgreens.com...

High-Definition Setting Powder
  • Translucent
  • For All Skin Tones
  • Loose Powder
To set make up for a flawless, high-definition finish, dip a large face brush into powder, shake off excess and apply to face in a buffing, circular motion.  Best used over foundation but can also be used alone.
What does Ms. Faux think?

I'm not sure if this is because my skin is a little more dry due to the change of the weather, but I will say this definitely does mattify.  Perhaps a little too much.  I think I would love this setting powder in the summer, but for right night it is sucking out the life force of my skin.  So.... pass... for now.

What is it?  According to Walgreens.com...

Easy, Endless Options
  • 12 On Trend Shades
  • Pigment-Rich
  • Dual Ended Applicator Included
Sweep lighter shade across the entire eyelid from lash line to brow line.  Apply darker shade along crease to the outer corner of lid.
What does Ms. Faux think?

O.k. hunties I did get all of them.  At first I though I really will only use the Nudes and the Ultra and then I thought... o.k. maybe the Smoky.  Then I thought hell, knock it out with the Neons, they will be fun in the summer for your lash line.

First if you are looking for highly pigmented shadows this is not for you.  If you are like Ms. Faux however and love just a slight wash of color on your lids, these are perfect.

They are a little chalkier and not as buttery.  Seriously Wet N Wild does better shadows.  Also... Wet N Wild actually has really good shadows.  Just a tip from me to you.

What LA Girl does though is have a ton of colors packed into these palettes and at $6.99 each it is a steal.  Again if it is just light color you are looking for, these pack a lot of colors into lovely palettes.  For me this one is a go, but for others maybe a pass.

What is it?  According to Walgreens.com...

Glazed Lip Lip Gloss
  • Super Intense Color
  • Extra Glossy Finish
  • Various Shades
What does Ms. Faux think?

These have been called dupes for the Too Faced "Melted," Line.  Well Ms. Faux is gonna call a, "hell no," on that.  That are kind of close but the Melted line I find is different.  They are both heavily pigmented, but I find that the LA Girl line is definitely more glossy to the more mattified Too Face.  I do get how people got there though because the packaging is quite similar.

Too Faced Melted
Ms. Faux found some of the colors just to wash her out.  Those however could be used as highlight colors and the dark colors are just a bit too dark.  So while there are a couple of colors in the line that I might use this is a pass for me.  If you are however a bit more daring, this could be a nice affordable option for those ladies that love color.  You know Ms. Faux though... she likes her make up like she likes to live... in the nude.

What is it?  According to Walgreens.com...

All-in-One Skin Beautifier
  • Helps Prime & Moisturize Skin
  • Helps Enhance Skin
  • Paraben & Fragrance Free
Apply a dime sized amount of BB Cream to skin.  May be worn alone or under powder.  For best results finish wiht L.A. Girl Pro Setting Powder.
What does Ms. Faux think?

So hunties if you haven't already ready my Fab Five Friday for Today, well then I will spell it out again what I think of this product.

Go.  Get.  It.  Now.  This product is a home run.  It performs as well if not better as a lot of high end foundations.  I simply love it.  It is like delicious butter for the face.  Your face is a big old delicious biscuit in this case.

This metaphor is running astray.  I will just say this will be a constant in Ms. Faux's make collection at home and in her gym bag.  I want it everywhere.  It is a DIAMOND hunties.  A DIAMOND!!!

Seriously.  I'm going to Andre Leon Talley this product and that is to say, Its...

So there you go.  LA Girl Cosmetics.  Some gems and some plain old rocks, but an amazingly affordable cosmetics line.

Stay tuned because coming up tomorrow Ms. Faux's is rolling out her favorite, "go to," cold neccesities.

Fab Five Friday: 10.30.2015

Here it is hunties...  The five most used products that kept Ms. Faux from lookin' a fool.

What is it?  According to Sephora.com...

What it is:
A mild facial cleanser to promote clean, healthy-looking, luminous skin.

What it is formulated to do:
Clarins Gentle Foaming Cleanser eliminates impurities and excess oil from skin without causing irritation. Formulated with coconut and fatty acids to protect skin balance and radiance, this lightweight, refreshing lather rinses away easily with cool water and protects skin from the drying effects of hard water.

What it is formulated WITHOUT:
- Parabens
- Phthalates

What else you need to know:
This dermatologist tested, noncomedogenic formula is as gentle as cleansing milk and as purifying as soap. It brings out the best and the brightest in all types of complexions, but is ideal for normal to combination skin.

What does Ms. Faux think?

This is the gentlest of cleansers that helps Ms. Faux's skin in times of stress without stripping it.  As winter rolls around that is incredibly important as you want to keep what moisture you got in your skin there.  I love this cleanser.  It is a bit pricey, but well worth it.  I would spend more for skincare rather than make-up any day of the week.

What is it?  According to Walgreens.com...

All-in-One Skin Beautifier
  • Helps Prime & Moisturize Skin
  • Helps Enhance Skin
  • Paraben & Fragrance Free
Apply a dime sized amount of BB Cream to skin.  May be worn alone or under powder.  For best results finish with L.A. Girl Pro Setting Powder.
What does Ms. Faux think?

Proof of my earlier statement.  I would spend more on skin care than make-up.  Well this comes with a bit of a twist... this BB Cream performs as good if not better than some of my higher end foundations.  Not kidding.  There is some limitation to their color range, but if you can find a color that suits I say get your butt to a drug store and buy this.

Now I want to give a disclaimer... I did have to go online to Walgreens.com to order this online.  I searched high and low and Walgreens did carry it in Chicago at one time, but seemingly no more.  However with over $35 spent they will ship for free.  That is easy for Ms. Faux because I can easily go on the Walgreens website and spend $35 easily.  I mean... a pack of razors.  Also if you really like this get two or three when you order.  I switch around quite a bit so I only got one, but seriously next time I order I'm getting another as my go to for my gym bag.

Also... check back later today as Ms. Faux did a L.A. Girl haul that she is gonna review.

What is it?  According to MACcosmetics.com...

The highly popular Patentpolish Lip Pencil returns as your go-to magic wand for high-impact lips.  With a single swipe imbuing the ultimate high-gloss shine.

Enjoy colour in an expanded range of 14 shades.  This sleek, all-in-one tool offers the comfort of a balm, the colour and sheen of a gloss and the precision of a lip pencil.

With an effortless twist-up applicator, you'll never have to sharpen.

What does Ms. Faux think?

I.  Am.  In.  Love.  This is Ms. Faux's favorite formulation of lip product.  I generally go to a gloss because I love a high shine, but I like the staying power of a lipstick.  I also love pencils because they provide easy swipes.  Also... they have an amazing color range though I do think French Kiss is the best.  Such a gorgeous nude.

That being said here are my gripes with MAC's statement above.  "Imbuing?"  Seriously?  Who are you J. Peterman.

Seriously... that is my only gripe and I actually think it is hilarious.

What is it?  According to Ulta.com...

Lash Sensational Waterproof Mascara from Maybelline New York is the first patented fanning brush with 10 layers of bristles to reveal a full flourish of lashes. Liquid Ink formula coats from all sides for a sensational full fan effect.

What does Ms. Faux think?

This mascara is a favorite right now and does what it says.  One think I hate about mascaras are that they are clumpy.  Ms. Faux has long lashes, but not a ton of them.  Also certainly not too little of them either.  This lifts, separates, lengthens and volumizes.  Seriously is is the greatest foundation and does create a fan effect.  Go.  Get.  This.  Now.

What is it?  According to Walgreens.com...

Stylish, New Fabric-Inspired Special Effects
  • Plush, Velvet Look
  • Easy to Apply
  • 8 Stylish Limited Edition Shades
No messy or loose powder necessary to create the lush velvet-like finish you've always wanted!  Just two coats is all you need for a sophisticated look.
What does Ms. Faux think?

I am not a fan of the matte look.  Lipsticks, nail polishes, foundations, etc...  As a matter of fact for foundation I use matte formulas mainly in the summer because Ms. Faux sweats a lot and it tends to counteract that.  Lips I find it too drying and fingernails... well I just don't get it.  That is until I saw this color from Sally Hansen.  It is called lavish and it certainly is.  Such a gorgeous fall color and it looks so expensive and lush.  I just love it.

So there you go.  Ms. Faux's Fab Five Friday.  Stay tunes because later today I'm rolling out my review on my L.A. Girl Cosmetics haul.
