FauxPrah's Cola Addiction: Thanks Clinique & Sephora

Ms. FauxPrah's Demon

So Ms. FauxPrah has one hell of an addiction.  Soda.  It done tore up her stomach and had she not got it in check it probably would have ruined her health.  After two long years she fell off the wagon and she is back on the road to recovery and then Clinique  and Sephora done come along like a crackhouse.

www.clinique.com

Now there are few things in this world in this world that I think are dangerous for me and one of them along with crack, heroin, cigarettes and the like that I think is and it is Diet Coke.  I simply can't help myself.  I need my fix.  I get crazy!  But I'm now doing it again.  Back on the wagon and then Sephora and Clinique come along with this deliciousness.

www.sephora.com
First Clinique.  I don't really think of them for my make up.  I used to use them a lot for skincare back in the day, but they do have one thing that I have always loved and that is their Clinique Black Honey Superbalm.  It is one of my holy grails of make up.  Top 10 make up products. Etc...  Why?  Because it is the perfect lipbalm with a hint of sheer color to make your lips look fabulous.  Trust gurl.  Preach!  But I will save that for a later date.  Today is about the damn cola.

Clinique Superbalm Moisturizing Gloss in Black Honey$16 at Sephora
Sorry.  Couldn't help myself.  No Clinique has done come along with this.  Clinique Cheek Pop in Cola Pop

Clinique Cheek Pop in Cola Pop
$21 at Sephora
It is gorgeous buildable color that leaves your cheeks with a fully flushed hue.  This isn't the only color.  Check out Sephora for more colors.  It is so beautifully packaged as well.  Who knew I would be using Clinique for cosmetics.  Beautiful.

And of course I couldn't get out of there with just spending $21.  Oh now, that danged Sephora crack dealer done showed me the gorgeous lipstick that Clinique also has.  Clinque Pop Lip Color $18 at Sephora

Clinque Pop Lip Color $18 at Sephora
.
Now of course I got, "Cola Pop," which is a deep rich chocolate brown creme.  I mean... just look.

It's so SEXY it just makes Ms. FauxPrah tingle.  The two colors pair together so well like two lovers intertwined.  If you all would give Ms. FauxPrah a moment.

O.k. where was I.  They are just so damn delicious i just can't help myself.  The lipstick is weightless and gives bold color with a primer built right in.  Pure Heaven.

Then just like any good drug dealer Sephora doesn't let you get out of there without taking you through a maze of other drugs (the impulse buy stuff in the line que).  The only thing is that their stuff is so much better than anyone elses.  And yes they got me with this little lovely but at $8 I can't complain.

Sephora Kiss Me Balm in Soda Pop
It is Sephora's Kiss Me Balm in Soda Pop, $8 at Sephora.  Hunties... I can't recommend these little hunties enough.  I did not have this one but have bought the others in the past.  That's right.  They have other colors, just look.

I mean... I cannot.  Ms. FauxPrah do have the vapors.  They smell great are ultra moisturizing with just a hint of color.  A triumph.

So ya'll what do this mean?  Well Ms. FauxPrah may have given up ingesting that devil soda in her gut, but she still be puttin' it all over her face.

And remember ya'll, though Ms. FauxPrah do have a struggle with that narcotic diet coke, it is important to remember...

Peach and love,
Faux

Good Golly Ms. Sally: Sally Beauty Supply Finds/Haul

So Ms. FauxPrah had some time to kill and she found her a location called Sally Beauty Supply.  She do love this place for delightful fingernail polish options, but she wanted to see what else they had to offer.  So she sauntered in, as FauxPrah do and just took a look around.  It was a little bit of everything.  Here are the things that spoke to Ms. FauxPrah.

First of all she found Femme Couture Eternal Color Intense Silky Shadow In Pyrite $6.99 at Sally and $6.29 with a club card.

This color is a gorgeous smokey, gold grey which makes it almost taupish and very neutral.  And you know Ms. FauxPrah... she do care for a good neutral eye color.  This may be a new favorite.  It has the same texture as one of Ms. FauxPrah's favorite L'Oreal 's Infallible.  The formula is so creamy and it lasted most of the day.

Next Ms. FauxPrah Found Dri Sweat Edge Women's Headband $3.99 at Sally and $3.59 with a club card.  Ms. FauxPrah got inspired to get her run back on so she picked one up, went straight home and put it on with a pair of her best running pants and curled up on the couch with a giant pint of her favorite Ben & Jerry's.  Girl gotta do what she gotta do.

Seriously though Ms. FauxPrah will soon be given medical clearance to exercise again and this sweatband did keep my hair out of my ice cream and will work beautifully.

Next Ms. FauxPrah found maybe a her favorite new lipgloss (for right now anyway) Palladio's Herbal Plump N Shine in Mauvey $6.49 at Sally and $5.49 with a club card.

It is a gorgeous color and one of my favorite new nudes.  I may pair this with just about everything.  I mean look at this color.

It is a your lips at their best type color.  The best part... It has a brush applicator rather than a doe foot applicator.  It is without a doubt perfection and left Ms. FauxPrah feeling like her trip to Sally was worth it.

One other Palladio cosmetic that Ms. FauxPrah do enjoy was their Herbal Tinted Lip Balm in "Brownie" $4.49 at Sally and on sale for $3.49.

The formula reminded her of NYX's Butter Lipstick, but more sheer which I love.  Not totally sheer though.  This is a lovely punch of color to the lips.  I do care.

Palladio Herbal Tinted Lip Balm in Brownie
Lastly Ms. FauxPrah found something she care for, but in looking up information so that I could post a picture I just found out there might be something better.  The last thing I found was Marvy Manicurist Disinfectant Jar $16.99 at Sally, $15.99 with a club card.

It is a delightful glass jar with a press at the bottom much like a french press coffee maker.  I figured this would be good to rub the brushes against and then pull them out.  The only problem is that it doesn't really fit most brushes and it requires way too much brush cleaner product.

I probably could have gotten around the fitting of the brushes thing, but last night I was shocked at how much cleaner fluid it used.  Then I just found this lovely while online today.  YCC Total Immersion Brush Cleaning Jar $5.99 at Sally and $5.49 with a club card.

Ms. FauxPrah will let you know as soon as she tries it.  As a matter of fact she is going to do a whole brush cleaning expose very soon.

So there it be.  Ms. FauxPrah was intrigued by this store because she do like a project and it seemed nothin' but full of projects.  So Ms. Sally you are fierce, but I will likely buy my make up elsewhere.  You full of other gems though hunty.

Have You ever tried the YCC Total Immersion Brush Cleaning Jar?
How do you clean your brushes?
Any suggestions for Ms. FauxPrah and her brush cleaning expose?
What are you favorite products?

Ms. FauxPrah Au Natural: Do this work? Ms. FauxPrah Will Let You Know

So Ms. FauxPrah don't have a moustache.  Actually she don't have very much hair at all other than what is on her head, however I just found this all natural remedy that I'm so curious if it works.  So here is what I'm gonna do ya'll.  I'm gonna take some hormones, grow some facial hair and embark on this journey

JOKES!  I'm not sure if my pores even know how to grow hair, but I am going to try this on my very light fuzz just below where you would have a sideburn.

Seriously though I do know the struggle is real for some women.  I will see if I can get a friend to do this with me.

Such stunners!
Ms FauxPrah found an article that claims women in the Middle East have used this effective mixture for centuries.  I would love to know if that is true.  If you know someone please have them comment.  Anyways... where was I.

In fact, this mixture removes hair and soothes the skin. It will make your skin healthy and will also give it a nice shine. This mixture’s natural ingredients are filled with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. You should pay enough attention when it comes to skin care because the skin is the largest organ of the body. What you put on your skin is absorbed directly into the bloodstream.

Ingredients needed:
- 2 tablespoons of honey
- 2 tablespoons of lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon of oats porridge

Method of preparation:
Mix all of the abovementioned ingredients well and then place the resulting mixture on the face where you want to remove hair. Leave it on for about 15 minutes before you wash it with warm water. Apply some face cream afterwards. Repeat the procedure 2-3 times a week. After a month the hair will disappear completely.

Now Ms. FauxPrah will definitely reap the moisturizing properties of this, however I wonder where my peach fuzz will go.  Anyone want to try this with me?  I can keep you anonymous in the results.  If so please comment and I will contact you directly.

More to come on this experiment hunties.

Please refer any friends, family, enemies and haters to any of my websites.  I'll take them all and cuddle those you want with love and suffocate your enemies with the same.  Cause it what Ms. FauxPrah Do.

Damn Ms. Mercier

Hi Hunties,

Just a quick note...

I know I had promised to review the new Laura Mercier palette, but it is not yet available in stores, only online.  Ever so dreamy.

Fear not... Ms. FauxPrah, like the bloodhound she is has found out that it should be arriving this week.  As soon as it is I'm gonna snatch it right up.

Ms. FauxPrah do care for your patience and understanding.  In the meantime I did another blog on how to select a lipstick that you can find HERE.  Ms. FauxPrah used her years in the theatre with color mixing and lighting knowledge to help you find the perfect shade.

Not the work of Ms. FauxPrah

Cause remember if you don't look good, Ms. FauxPrah be lookin' like a damn fool.

Also we are just over 18,000 views of Ms. FauxPrah's blog.  If you like her blog, please tell your friends.  Ms. FauxPrah is trying to hit the 25,000 mark by Saturday.  Possible?  Crazy?  Probably a bit of both which is why she be doin' it.

Pro Tip: How To Choose A Lipstick Like a Pro & Stay Clean in the Meantime

How To Choose A Lipstick Like A Pro
& Stay Clean In The Meantime

For real one of these is a for real "Pro Tip" that was handed down to Ms. FauxPrah from a MAC make up artist.  The others are just how Ms. Faux rolls when she is trying on lipstick and lipgloss shades on account of her theatrical background which I guess is yet another pro tip.

So we all know the game.  After trying on too many lipsticks our natural lip color changes on account of the bloodflow that comes to the lips after wiping every color off.  Around our lips get puffy and it is hard to get a good idea of the color and overall you just look a mess.  Here are some tips to help.

1.  Get a wipe of some sort.  If you are in a  store that permits swatching then they will have a wipe or make up remover.  Today I was at MAC and simply asked for one of their MAC Wipes $20 at MAC, but they give them out as a courtesy if you are swatching.  I grabbed several.

Grab Some Make Up Remover
or Remover Wipes

Find where these are as you will want to keep replenishing.  You will also use them to disinfect your lipsticks that you want to try.  To disinfect simply wipe the tips before using.  For glosses use the provided test sticks.

MAC Wipes $20 at MAC,
2.  Next:  Narrow your choices.  The easiest and best way to swatch lipsticks (and this works at home as well when you are selecting a lipcolor) is to swatch your fingertips and hold it up to your face.  I like to use every finger except my thumb and when I swatch I line the lipsticks up like I read on on my fingers in the same order (left to right).  Hold up to your face and begin to narrow your options.

Swatch on Your Fingertips

3.  Another option is to roll out the lipstick and hold up in front of your lips.  Again this is just to narrow options.  For lipglosses simply hold the colored end in front of your lips.  This helps narrow the choices and keeps your lips from getting as puffy.

4.  When you are ready to test I recommend going least pigmented to most pigmented.  That typically means glosses to lipsticks, however some lipglosses are more pigmented than nude lipsticks.  This assures that you heavier pigments don't get left behind on your lips as much.

Try on In Order of
Least Pigmented to Most Pigmented

5.  DO NOT TRY ON ANY LIP STAINS UNTIL YOU ARE DONE TRYING ON ALL OTHER LIPSTICKS.  You will not be able to remove all the pigment and your color swatching on your lips will be affected.  Stain also has a tendency to bleed outside the lipline.

Wait Until The End To
Try on Lip Stains

6.  The best way to try on lipstick is in natural light.  If the store has a window ask for a hand mirror and go try on your lipstick or lipgloss.

Try on Lipstick In Natural Light
7.  Then walk back into the store and look at it under artificial light.  Pigments, weather it be in the lipstick on your lips or the paint on your walls, are affected by lighting. For color purposes natural vs. artificial light will suffice.  If you find one that works for both, you probably have found a good color.

Try on Lip Color In Both
Natural & Artificial Light

Natural light has more of a clean/clear look (left) whereas artificial lighting can vary from cool to warm.
The photo on the right has a warmer artificial light.  White balance on light varies therefore
Artificial light can even vary from warm to cool with incandescent being warmer and flourescent being cooler.  (See Below)
Above is the same color in different light
And just like artificial light changes so does natural.  It goes from warm to neutral to cool.

Natural Light: Morning (warm), Noon (neutral) and Night (cool)
So a good rule of thumb,
if it works under two lighting sources,
it will likely work in general.

8.  Should you get the puffy lip... ask for some concealer and dab on and around your lips to take it back to your natural skin tone.

Dab on Concealer If Too Much
Pigment is Left Behind

9.  Certain colors look good on certain people and not others.  Hair color, eye color, skin tone, skin color, whether your are fair or tan or a specific ethnicity.  The easiest way to determine what colors look good on you however is skin tone.  Here is a chart that may help.

Are there any others.  Actually yes.  Ms. FauxPrah is Neutral in that she has yellow skin tone with blue veins.  One of her blessings I suppose as I can generally find any color that will work for me.  That isn't to say I don't still have to try them on.  I just tend to just get a broader selection.  Where Ms. FauxPrah gets into trouble is that she can't wear too pale or too dark.  To pale make her look like a dead rat and too dark... well the same.

Here is another way to determine your skin tone.  Can you wear only gold jewelry?  Can you only wear silver jewelry.  Can you wear both?  Cooler pink tones go better with silver jewelry.  Warmer yellow skin tones work better with gold.  Neutral skin tones can go both ways.

As a general rule of thumb, use the below chart.

Light Skin Tone

  • What Looks Best: Deep plum-reds, berry and wine reds with blue undertones, browns and beige lipsticks with pink undertones, pinks with blue undertones. If you have warm undertones, you’ll look great in cappuccino, caramels, browns with golden or slightly bronze shimmer.
  • What to Avoid: If you have cool, pink undertones, avoid orange-reds, pale browns with yellow undertones and any shades that might overpower your complexion such as very hot pinks.
Medium/Light Olive Skin Tone

  • What Looks Best: Deep reds, blue-reds, deep pinks, brownish reds, caramel, medium brown with yellow or pink undertones and coffee browns.
  • What to Avoid: Medium tones seem to get away with warm and cool shades.
Olive Skin Tone
  • What Looks Best: Deeper shades of browns and reds, dark berries.
  • What to Avoid: Mauves, pale pinks, orange-reds, pink-reds.
Medium-Brown Skin Tone

  • What Looks Best: Brown reds, berry pinks, rose, medium plums with yellow undertones.
  • What to Avoid: Pinks that are too cool or light, pastel shades, orange.
Dark Skin Tone

  • What Looks Best: You can get away with darker, deep shades, reds with blue undertones, reddish browns like mahogany, deep plums, wine reds, raisin, coffee brown and deep rose.
  • What to Avoid: Orange, pinks or pastel shades.

So there you go.  Should you want to go it alone here are some tips.  There are so many other ways to select a good lipstick, but possibly the best is to ask the professional or a good friend you trust.
