EUROPEAN FLOWER GIFTING CUSTOMS
So Ms. Faux had to come into work on a Saturday which is fortunately a very rare thing. When she did however a very lovely Bosnian woman who lives in her building gifted her with 5 roses. Not the American standard of a dozen or a single rose, but rather 5. Such an odd number.
I accepted her kind gesture and then she explained to me that this is a European tradition. I had never heard of this. The way she explained is that they gift the odd number because your are the additional flower that makes it even. So in this case I guess Ms. Faux is the sixth rose.
Again I had never heard of this custom, but I do think it is as beautiful as the red tipped, white roses she gave me. Sure enough I looked up the custom and on TheFlowerExpert.com it states that in Europe that gifting in odd numbers for any number aside from 13 (it is found to be unlucky) is still in vogue.
What a beautiful custom that Ms. Faux will now adopt.
What are some of your favorite customs?
Ms. Faux would love to know. Please leave it in the comments.
