Fauxshold Tips: Make Your Own Poo Pourri

So welcome back to Ms. FauxPrah's FauxsHold Tips.  Today I am going to teach you a DIY version of the ever popular Poo-Pourri.

What is Poo-Pourri?  According to their site...

Poo~Pourri eliminates bathroom odor before it begins by creating a barrier on the surface of the water—so you can leave the porcelain throne smelling better than you found it.

Ms. Faux does love this product and so far has only duplicated their original citrus scent, which to be honest, remains her favorite version of the product and she has tried all of them.  Oh yes... they have a number of scents.

Amongst available scents include:

Original Citrus
Call of the Wild
Deja Poo
Juniper Woods
Lavender Vanilla
No. 2
Poo La La
Rose Geranium
Vanilla Mint
Royal Flush
Trap-a-Crap
Shoe-Pourri (formulated for shoe smells)

And specialty items such as:

Glitzy Spritz (refillable on-the spritzer)
Kickin' Class (Poo-Pourri & Shoe-Pourri) Gift Set
Gone Flushin' (Trap-a-Crap & Bass Ackwards) Gift Set
Master Crapsman (Heavy-Doody & Poo-Tonium) Gift Set

Most of the single scents are $9.95 and up depending on the size (100 - 800 use bottles).  Even during the holidays they releasd this cute little holder and sign for the back of your toilet.

Just what is Poo-Pourri?  Well it is the absolutely what that sign says.  It is a pre-toilet use spritz that hides the smell of the dreaded poo.  Perfect for parties and regular home use.  It is also free of harsh chemicals.

Now I do want to say Ms. Faux has replicated the citrus one, but she definitely has bought many of the others.  I mainly replicated the citrus one because I love the scent, own a ton of essential oils and wanted it for a general at home fragrance as well.  Along with replicating the scent I replicated my own little signage like the one above, but one that is more suited for my bathroom as their holder wouldn't fit in all decor choices.

To make the product you need the following:

A glass spritz bottle.  Get one that suits you or upcycle a use bottle if you don't care.  When working with essential oils though I feel that glass is better.

Distilled Water

Rubbing Alcohol

Dr. Bonners's Pure Castille Soap (optional: helps to keep a oil ring from forming)

Essential Oil:  Lemongrass, Bergamot & Grapefruit (10 drops of each)

To Mix:

Start with a preferably glass sprayer bottle, 3 to 4 oz..  I selected this bottle from Amazon.com because it fits my decor.

Spray Bottle $11.36 at Amazon.com
Fill 3/4 of the way full with distilled water.  Add a tablespoon of rubbing alcohol and a tablespoon of Pure Castille Soap (optional).  Then add 10 drops each of Lemongrass, Bergamot, and Grapefruit Essential oils.  Ms. Faux prefers essential oils from Young Living because they seem more potent, but any essential oil will do.

Mix all together in the bottle and shake before each use.  Spray the water of the toilet bowl before going 4 times and then do your business.

Should you want to provide instructions for your guests, I recommend a small frame to the side of your bottle with the instructions printed.  It is the size to hold basically a place setting or small wallet photo.

This frame is $1.49 + Free Shipping At Amazon.com
I have typed out the instruction below for your convenience.  Simply cut and past and change the font sizes and type to suit your decorating needs.

Faux Poo-Pourri

Spritz The Bowl Before You Go
And No One Else Will Ever Know

Shake Well Before Using

I would likely, based on Ms. Faux's decorating style in her bathroom print this on white card stock with simply black writing.  Ms. Faux do like to get a little creative though and since she has a very old timey pharmaceutical style decor in her bathroom I came up with this.

I also came up with, "Spritz the bowl before you doo, and no one will know you did No. 2."

The sky is the limit though.  Find a picture you like and print on top of it.  Get a piece of printed paper from your local craft store and print on that.  Use colored card stock or any other type of printable paper you wish.  Tip... white fonts work best on the majority of colored papers in that they contrast the most with most colors.

So there you go.  A dupe.  A Fauxshold tip.  Ms. Faux is bringing it deuce style today.  Get it?  Nevermind... I got poop on the brain!!!

So have you tried Poo-Pourri?

What did you think?
