Home Tips With FauxPrah - $100+ Baking Soda Savings

Faux as you all know works in the real estate biz when she isn't working the blog.  So I'm around all sorts of drain unplugging, house beautifying, sneaky little tips and tricks to keep the house functioning.

Today I have a find and a $100+ dollar household tip.

First the find...

Ms. Faux cares for the LED bulbs.  They are gorgeous, but they are energy zappers.  Though I had a bunch of them anyway I feel a bit better about myself since I found these...

That's right it is an LED edison looking bulb.  So you can have the form and the function.  The great part is that they come in various looks as well with equally varying prices for $7+ at Amazon.com and hardware stores such as Home Depot

Seriously though... look at the variety...

I simply cannot...  And what do you do with all your old Edison bulbs.  Well you can build pedestals for them and make them into art or do what I did and put them in this lovely candle holder from Pier1 Imports - the Hanging Pillar Jar Hurricane$30-$100 at Pier1.com for a more interesting looking piece on my coffee table.

Now the $100+ saving tip.  Well it saved me $100+ dollars and here is how.

Ms. Faux has this lovely pair of Bose Noise Cancelling headphones that due to my move I have not used in a while and left a battery in them.  The battery became corrosive and leaked acid into the casing.

They are worth about $100+.  So I took a small bowl and placed some baking soda and a tiny bit of water.  Just enough that you make a moisture mixture in the bowl.

Grab a Q-Tip, dip it in the mixture and clean the contacts.  Be very careful to get the least amount of water in the electronics you are working on as possible.  Wipe away the corrosion.

Use a clean water Q-Tip to rinse and another to dry it.  Allow the item to dry completely and put the batteries back.  If it was the acid on the contacts then your equipment should work again.  MINE DID!!!  You can use this on toys and other application that has battery acid corrosion.  I was just happy not to replace my expensive headphones.
