So Ms. Faux received a $25 off a $50 purchase for being a Rouge VIB member with Sephora. When I get this type of gift from them I always think... "what have I been wanting to try, but not necessarily ready to pull the trigger?"
Then an alarm went off in Ms. Faux's head and she thought.
Kat Von D's Shade & Light Eye Contour Palette $46 at Sephora.com
What is it? According to Sephora.com...
What it is:
An eye contouring palette featuring three color quads in neutral, cool, and warm shades.
What it does:
Transform your eyes through the art of contouring. After tapping into makeup pro secrets, Kat Von D created this first-of-its-kind eye shadow palette. It’s specially-designed for eye contouring, a groundbreaking technique once used only by beauty experts to define and enhance eyes. This palette features a gorgeous, versatile array of true contouring shades, arranged into three color quads—neutral, cool, and warm—to flatter every skintone.
Three large base shadows are arranged above three coordinating powders for contouring, defining, and highlighting. Each velvety powder is blendable and buildable, and it features Kat Von D’s signature high-pigment, long-wear eye shadow formula, created to deliver rich color that lasts all day and all night.

What did Ms. Faux think?
This is not be confused with the Kat Von D Contouring Palette. This is for the eyes and the Contouring Palette is for the face. That being said...
Ms. Faux's biggest hesitancy with this palette is that she already owns what she thinks is the end all be all of all basic nude palettes with the Urban Decay Naked Palettes. I mean I have pretty much went on record with how amazing I think their eyeshadows are. They are the best of the best. Also I thought..., "well I have a ton of mattes as well." I think my thoughts with this palette was, "did I really need it given what I already own." The answer... YES! I mean...
These are gorgeous shades in cool, warm and neutral pairings. The colors to be quite honest, though I thought I had them... I did not. These are matte shades because they are meant for contouring the eye. The Naked Palettes come in a plethora of finishes from shimmery, satin and then matte as well. This palette IS. JUST. MATTE. And to say, "just matte," does it an injustice. They are delicious and buttery and so easy to blend. Remember Ms. Von D is an artist so if anyone were to understand the importance of blending to create gorgeous, "Shade + Light," it is going to be her.
I truly don't know how I have lived without this palette since I got it. That taupey center shade on top is worth the price of the palette alone. I see this as a very quick, swipe of the lids and out the door, cheat shade for Ms. Faux. It is just the best color ever.
These shades are highly pigmented with great transition, crease and lining shades. They are perfect for a neutral eye or pairing with others of your favorite eyeshadows to create un-ending looks.
