Ms. Faux's Fave Grill Cheese & Tomato Soup Pairing
Gruyere Horseradish & Dijon Grill Cheese
Ingredients (Serves 1 to 2 Depending on the Cheesiness of your Grill Cheese)
1 Loaf Rustic Italian Bread Sliced
1 Cup Grated Gruyere Cheese
1 tbsp Dijon Mustard
1 tbsp Prepared Horseradish
2 tbsp Butter (optional: more butter for a more buttery grill cheese)
Preparation
- Grate gruyere cheese and put in a bowl.
- Add dijon mustard and prepared horseradish to the shredded cheese and stir until all of the cheese is coated.
- Take two slices of the Rustic Italian Bread and butter the outsides of the bread.
- Place one slice (butter side down) and place it in a skillet on medium high heat.
- Spoon enough of the cheese mixture onto the bread in order to cover it. Want it cheesier, use more cheese.
- Place the other slice of buttered bread butter side up on top.
- Cook in skillet until golden brown.
Note: Placing a cover on the skillet will assist in the melting of the cheese.
Cut in 1/2 and pair with warm tomato soup. Ms. Faux's favorite Pacific Brand Organic Roasted Red Pepper and Tomato Soup $3.94 at Target.com, but also can be found in most grocery stores.
Why does this pair so well?
Well the grill cheese is a very savory and salty grill cheese. This tomato soup has a sweetness about it that just pairs perfectly for the best salty and sweet pairing. Also... it really is a very delicious soup that requires very little preparation as you just heat it.
Delicious on a cold winter day.
What do you think?
What is your favorite cold weather soup and sandwich pairing?
